Youth Gather for 'Lucky You!' Spring Conference

By Charlotte Garcia, Diocesan Coordinator for Youth and Family

The youth of our diocese gathered at Lake Logan on March 15–17 for Spring Conference themed 'Lucky You!'.

Youth council members led sessions on The Holy Trinity, how the world was lucky to have Jesus, and how to use gifts to show others Jesus. Turner Gruidry helped guide us spiritually over the weekend and did a wonderful job leading us through a labyrinth walk—big thanks to Calvary for letting us borrow the beautiful canvas labyrinth; that was a real treat for a lot of the youth as that was their first experience using one!

On Saturday we had a special visitor from The Diocese of NC. Lisa Aycock shared information about HUGS Camp, which is a camp that they host for people with different abilities, she needs high-school-aged buddy campers to help ensure the week goes smoothly. We made welcome bags for her campers and several of our youth are excited to apply to be a “Buddy Camper”.

Saturday night we had a talent show and so many had a great time participating in that – there were singers, some cheerleaders, dancers, and even a magician!

Will Bryant came on Sunday morning and helped the seniors prepare a senior sermon for Eucharist and listening to their sermon was such a special part of the weekend! We blessed our seniors Nathaniel, Stella, Gabby, Ben, Cava, and Cassie, and sent them on their way with prayers, well wishes, and Bishop Jose bobbleheads, which they were all super excited to receive!

Our hope is that all the youth who attended had a great time, and will return to future conferences and camp this summer!
