Exploring Our Churches:
Western Area
The Western area of our diocese consists of seven counties with 12 parishes and two worshiping communities staffed by nine full-time priests, two in transition, and a Lutheran and a Moravian pastor. The deanery is blessed with the natural beauty and culture of two national forests within the Appalachian Mountains, the grandeur of the Great Smoky National Park, the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and numerous waterfalls in the Southern Highlands. It is home to Lake Logan Episcopal Center, John Campbell Folk School and a sovereign nation recognized by the federal government. The Eastern Band of Cherokee resides in their traditional homelands with a history that spans the millennia.
