The Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina came together Friday, April 26, at the Reems Creek Golf Club for the inaugural Bishop's Cup golf tournament to benefit Camp Henry and Lake Logan.
"The Bishop's Cup was a tremendous success. We had such a good turnout of people from churches all over the diocese of Western North Carolina, with teams traveling from Tryon and Boone. We also were supported by a number of local businesses from all over the region. This tournament, the participation, the sponsorships, the generosity - this is what community looks like," said head organizer, the Rev. Will Bryant, Associate Priest at the Cathedral of All Souls.
Nearly 100 people played golf in teams of four. The winning team got 50% off a stay at Lake Logan. Prizes were given for the closest to the pin and longest drive, as well as a putting contest. Winners received sponsor gift cards, tickets to the Cold Mountain Music Festival coming up June 1, and swag.
In first place, a ragtag group of golfers and friends of the Diocese with the team name: "My Neck, My Back, My Bishop and His Hat" took home the cup. The team was sponsored by a former Camp Henry counselor, Alex Walters.
"Camp Henry is a special place. It has given so many people, including myself, a loving and nurturing community to learn and explore God's identity. My best friendships were forged at camp, my vocation as a priest in God's church was born there. I look forward to planning next year's event to keep supporting that beautiful, transformative place," Bryant said.
