By Mary Ann Ransom, President of the WNC ECW
The Episcopal Church Women Board of the Episcopal Diocese Western North Carolina is creating an ECW Leadership Task Force to examine our vision of today and re-vision our future for tomorrow.
Just like the women who came together 151 years ago to give birth to a vision for women’s ministry in the National Episcopal Church, once again, the WNC ECW is called to seek a new vision for the future.
We have survived the pandemic and kept our church family together to worship and serve God in various creative ways; however, the time has come to re-visit our work and once again speak with one voice. It is time to think outside of the box and to address issues that speak to the world of today. We will always support United Thank Offering, which gives funds to help worldwide projects; the Church Periodical Club, which provides education and support for children, women, and men; Women Helping Women Scholarships, and the other programs we provide.
However, today, our ECW is called to address world and domestic hunger in new ways, creation care to save Mother Earth, evangelism to spread the Good News, and racial reconciliation to fight against inequality. Some of this work is already being done through our present programs, but we need to expand these programs.
How should we do this? One way is through prayer, listening, and hard work.
