Romans 6:6–8
We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. For whoever has died is freed from sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
As we gather today to celebrate the joyous occasion of Easter, I am filled with immense gratitude for the life I’ve seen throughout our diocese through Lent. As I’ve traveled around to various parishes for visitations and special occasions, I have seen the many inspiring ways we as a church are committed to our relationship with Christ. I pray that the intentions you set during this time have brought you closer to God and filled your hearts with peace and renewal.
Throughout Lent, we have reflected on the significance of walking with God in the midst of our daily lives—the ordinary moments that often pass us by unnoticed. Today, as we rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord, let us carry with us the profound truth from in the words of Saint Paul: "For whoever has died is freed from sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him."
The word “with” in this passage really sticks out to me. God is with us still today. This Easter, let us remember that God is not a distant figure, but a constant presence in our lives—a companion on our journey, walking beside us through the highs and lows, the joys and sorrows. Even amidst the mundane routines and distractions of life, God is there, ever faithful, ever loving, never abandoning us.
As we move into spring and summer, let us make a conscious effort to cultivate a deeper awareness of God's presence in our lives. Take time to carve out moments of stillness amidst the chaos, where we can listen for the gentle whisper of God’s voice. Let us open our eyes to the countless blessings that surround us each day, recognizing them as manifestations of God's love for us.
As we reflect on the light of Christ's resurrection, let us embrace the gift of God’s presence in our lives through the Holy Spirit. My hope for you, and for myself, is to live each day with a renewed awareness of God's unfailing love, seeking God’s guidance and grace in all that we do.
May this Easter be a time of spiritual rebirth and renewal for each of us, as we continue to walk with our risen Lord, confident that we are loved. Alleluia.
