The Rt. Rev. José A. McLoughlin

Bishop

The Rt. Rev. José A. McLoughlin is the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Western North Carolina. He is the chief pastor of the diocese and visits a different congregation almost every Sunday.

Lisa Rettew

Executive Assistant to the Bishop

Lisa manages Bishop José’s calendar and visitation schedule, and assists with diocesan committees such as Executive Council and Commission on Ministry.  Contact Lisa if you need to make an appointment with the bishop, have questions about the discernment process, clergy licensing or canonical transfers, or want to talk about Carolina basketball, in season or out.

Megan Cox

Young Adult Ministry Coordinator

Megan works with the campus ministry at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, creating opportunities for college students and young adults to build community through service, fellowship, and worship. Megan also works to create opportunities that meet the spiritual needs of young adults in the Asheville area. She grew up attending Trinity Episcopal Church and was active in diocesan youth programs and Camp Henry. Megan holds young adults close to her heart and hopes to bring valuable change to campus ministry and beyond. 

The Rev. Canon Augusta Anderson

Canon to the Ordinary and Chief of Staff

Canon Augusta assists the bishop with general oversight of the diocese. Get in touch with her if you have questions about parish property transactions, church transitions, leadership development, or parenting four children and three pets with a sense of humor.

Kelly Stephenson

Assistant for Finance and Diocesan Life

As the Assistant for Finance and Diocesan Life, Kelly equips us to serve our congregations with direct staff support in both financial services and operational assistance. She assists the Chief Financial Officer and the Canon to the Ordinary, serves as a resource for parish administrators in their various responsibilities, and supports both the regular operations of the diocesan office and our ongoing diocesan-wide events.

Corey Kundert

Young Adult Ministry Coordinator

Corey co-leads the Presbyterian-Episcopal Campus Ministry (PECM) collaborative at Appalachian State and assists in managing and promoting programming at 3rd Place, a young adult community. Corey helps create opportunities for college students and young adults to build community through service, fellowship, and worship. Corey and Amanda have been married since 2011 and attend St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Boone. In his free time, Corey can be found playing with his two dogs, roasting coffee, or hiking one of the beautiful trails in the High Country.

Carol Tannenbaum

Chief Financial Officer

Before joining the diocese, Carol served as the Corporate Director of Finance for BayCare Health System, a large mission-based not-for-profit healthcare organization in Florida. She earned her Master's in Business Administration and Bachelor of Business in Accounting from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta and she currently holds a CPA license in Tennessee. Carol is excited to serve the people and churches of the diocese. 

Eden Lewis

Missioner for Youth and Young Adults

Eden oversees Christian formation for middle school youth, high school youth and young adults. She coordinates (with the help of youth and youth ministers) programs such as conferences, mission trips, and pilgrimages for middle school and high school youth. She also works with the campus and young adult ministers to provide programming that meets the needs of young adults on college campuses and in our local communities. 

The Venerable Brenda Gilbert

Archdeacon

The Archdeacon is a deacon of the diocese who is appointed by, responsible to, and with access to the Bishop. The Archdeacon is the liaison between the Bishop and the deacons in the Diocese, which includes but is not limited to advocating for deacons, assisting the bishop in addressing the pastoral needs of deacons, and assisting the deacons and Bishop in arranging and maintaining parochial assignments. The Archdeacon is also involved in the discernment process for deacons as well as deacon formation.

Talk to Chris about website issues, communications strategies, or anything exciting happening in your parish.

The Rev. Hilario Cisneros

Diocesan Missioner for Latino Ministries; Rector, La Capilla de Santa Maria

Father Hilario's leadership role is to establish a network of parishes and people in our diocese to engage in conversation and partnership with our Spanish speaking neighbors. He encourages outreach and ministry beyond cultural bounds, and he can also teach you how to make spicy green tomatillo enchiladas.

The Rev. Miguel Alvarez

Regional Missioner for Latino Ministries

Father Alvarez ministers to several growing Hispanic congregations in our diocese. Padre Alvarez is from Chiapas, Mexico and his last assignment was in Santo Tomas, Las Vegas NV.

Kathryn Florack

Camp Henry Director

Kathryn is proud and blessed to be the Director of Camp Henry, a ministry for all people, but especially youth! Camp Henry is primarily a summer camp, with overnight sessions for all ages that range in length from a half-week to two weeks, and is located at the beautiful Lake Logan Conference Center. At Camp Henry, we strive to provide an affordable and memorable experience of the Living God to all of our participants in an environment of unconditional love, imagination and engagement!
